What is Census 2010?

The Census is a count of all residents in the United States. The U.S. Census is taken every 10 years and is required by the U.S. Constitution. In March 2010, every household in Minnesota will receive a 2010 Census form. It will consist of 10 basic questions and it will take the average family 10 minutes to complete. Filling out this form is required by law and your answers are protected

Why is Census 2010 important?

Numbers mean power

The census count determines representation in the U.S. Congress. Minnesota currently has 8 representatives in the U.S. Congress. However, the state could lose one seat after 2010 because of population changes.

Numbers mean money

Census 2010 PartnerFor every 100 Minnesotans who fail to answer the Census, the state will lose $1 million in federal funds over the next ten years.

Numbers mean information.

Census data guides local decision-makers in important community planning, including where to build new roads, hospitals, schools and other community facilities. Businesses rely on accurate census data for allocating new businesses, marketing and recruitment of employees.
